Toyota Australia confirms RAV4 Hybrid, on sale date not confirmed

Toyota Australia has confirmed that the RAV4 Hybrid will join other models of the all-new SUV, which is due to land here in Australia in the first half of 2019. The announcement was made in a press release regarding the all-new 2019 Toyota Corolla hatch.

While the exact powertrain is yet to be revealed, it’s likely that it’ll feature a similar setup to the 2.5-litre four-cylinder and electric motor setup found in the current-generation Toyota Camry Hybrid. Both the upcoming 2019 RAV4 and the new Camry are both underpinned by the Japanese manufacturer’s Toyota New Global Architecture.

The 2019 RAV4 shows off an all-new design both inside and out, and will come with the availability of Toyota’s new Dynamic Force 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine. Petrol only models will be paired with an eight-speed automatic – a first for RAV4, and it’s almost certain the Hybrid model will be coupled with a CVT transmission.

Another Toyota first is an all-wheel drive system that comes with torque-vectoring with rear driveline disconnect. Moving the RAV4 to the Toyota New Generation Architecture has helped increase chassis rigidity by 57 per cent over the outgoing model, while the wheelbase has also grown by 30mm, width by around 10mm, and overall length by about 5mm.

The interior has been revamped and features a semi-floating touch-screen atop the dash, as well as a totally new dash design and new cabin controls. The star feature of the dash has to be the 7.0-inch display screen which has been packaged with Entune 3.0 media with Wi-Fi Connect by Verizon (at least in the US spec model). Audiophiles will love the availability of an 11-speaker JBL sound system.

Toyota Australia vice president of sales and marketing Sean Hanley said:

“The combination of Toyota’s latest hybrid system and an advanced new petrol engine will deliver impressive power output and exceptional energy efficiency. Toyota’s hybrid technology will perfectly complement the work of engineers who have dialled-up the fun-to-drive factor by advancing every aspect of RAV4’s performance, handling and ride comfort.”

Exact specifications of all 2019 RAV4 models are still yet to be confirmed by Toyota Australia. Be sure to check back with us for updates.
